Thinking of nominating to be on your Strata Committee or own a duplex?

Stay up-to-date on the most recent changes to the NSW Strata Legislation which may affect you!

From 1 October 2026, the most recent changes to the strata legislation will come into effect, including new mandatory training requirements for strata committee members and changes to annual reporting requirements for two-lot schemes.

Mandatory Training for Strata Committee Members

From 1 October 2026, Strata Committee members appointed between 1 October 2026 and 30 September 2027 will be required to complete mandatory introductory training within 3 months from their appointment. This is usually the date of the general meeting when the individual was appointed.

This training will cover a range of topics with the intention of informing committee members of their obligations, and basic knowledge required to make decisions regarding the management of the scheme. Failure to complete the training can result in the individual being removed as a committee member.

The introductory training module will:

  • Be free of charge,
  • Be accessible to all strata residents and owners via Strata Hub, and
  • Take approximately one hour to complete.

Training will not be required of committee members who:

  • Were appointed before 1 October 2026,
  • Are committee members of a two-lot scheme,
  • Are strata managers themselves or are members of the Australian College of Strata Lawyers, and
  • Are only filling a casual vacant Committee member role (less than 3 months).

The training must be completed by strata committee members each year, with additional training requirements expected to be announced each year.

Changes to Reporting Requirements for Two-Lot Schemes

Also from 1 October 2026, two-lot schemes will not have to complete annual strata reporting. While this will ease the regulatory requirements that are currently imposed on these schemes, it does not remove the responsibility of the Owners Corporation to fulfil their obligations under the Strata Schemes Management Act 2015 (NSW).

How can we help?

The upcoming changes will introduce new obligations for strata committee members while reducing some reporting requirements for two-lot schemes.
